Advanced BPM Detection Features

Our BPM detector goes beyond simple tempo detection to give you professional-grade analysis:

  • Confidence score — know how reliable the detected BPM is (High/Medium/Low)
  • Energy envelope — visualize the rhythmic energy pattern across the track
  • Alternative candidates — see other possible BPM values if the primary detection is uncertain
  • Half/double time — instantly see the half-time and double-time values
  • Genre classification — automatic genre suggestion based on detected BPM

Understanding BPM Confidence Scores

The confidence score tells you how certain the algorithm is about the detected BPM:

  • High (75%+) — The BPM is almost certainly correct. The track has a clear, consistent beat pattern.
  • Medium (50–74%) — The BPM is likely correct but there's some ambiguity. Check the alternative candidates.
  • Low (<50%) — The detection is uncertain. This may be due to complex rhythms, variable tempo, or quiet audio. Try a different section of the track.

Low confidence is common for:

  • Tracks with long ambient intros or outros
  • Music with complex polyrhythms or irregular time signatures
  • Very quiet or heavily compressed audio
  • Tracks that change tempo (rubato)

BPM Detection for Different Use Cases

Different users need BPM detection for different reasons:

  • DJs — Detect BPM to prepare tracks for beatmatching. Knowing the BPM of every track in your library is essential for smooth transitions.
  • Music producers — Detect the BPM of samples and loops before importing them into your DAW. This ensures correct time-stretching and grid alignment.
  • Fitness instructors — Find tracks at specific BPM ranges for different workout intensities (e.g., 120–130 BPM for cardio, 60–80 BPM for cool-down).
  • Music educators — Analyze the tempo of songs for music theory lessons and ear training exercises.
  • Sync licensing — Match music to video content at the correct tempo for natural-feeling synchronization.

Half-Time and Double-Time BPM

Many tracks can be perceived at different tempos depending on how you count the beats. Our BPM detector automatically shows:

  • Half-time — the BPM divided by 2. Useful when a track feels like it's at double speed, or when mixing with slower genres.
  • Double-time — the BPM multiplied by 2. Useful when a track feels like it's at half speed, or when mixing with faster genres.

For example, a Drum & Bass track at 174 BPM can be mixed with a Hip-Hop track at 87 BPM (half-time) — they share the same underlying pulse.
